About Us

For the last 20 years our Memorhyme members have worked, performed and toured at festivals, community centres, schools, prisons and theatres around the world whilst representing our home city of Birmingham. Originating from Warwick University and claiming The Drum Arts Centre Aston as their creative hub base, The New October Poets toured the UK with their spoken word theatrical shows. From this, a progression was made to ‘Colour Free Visions Theatre’ who specifically focused on the education arena. ‘Write Down Speak Up’ was formed to work alongside the public and private sector which subsequently gave birth to our latest streamlined venture, Memorhyme.

The Service(s)

Memorhyme Education remains at the heart of what we do, with mass literacy engagement projects with spoken word at its core. From Year 1 to Year 12 we help pupils build literacy and speaking confidence with our fun Poetry Slams on themes that reinforce curricular learning ie: Values, Character, British Values, Black History, Safeguarding, year group curricular topics and more. Poetry Slams offer a unique learning experience raising pupils' cultural capital. Online workshops and teacher CPD training around our 'Page', 'Stage' and 'Digital Age' format have also kept us busy establishing ourselves as market leaders for Academy Trusts. Teaching resources with poetry writing tasks, voiceover instructions and video examples; ideal for online or classroom learning, available soon.

Equality Diversity and Inclusion Support is a consultancy service encompassing years of experience from our members who offer creative solutions in both corporate and public sectors. We produce in-house 'Safe Space' webinar discussions where staff can have productive, honest 'non preachy' conversations on topics such as: 'Race', LGBTQ+ pronouns, sexism, disability, micro-aggressions, 'bullying and banter' and more. Additional Safe Space EDI resources support your Equality, Diversity and Inclusion outcomes, providing a platform for staff to securely share, update and use content as part of their in-house training and presentations.

To celebrate and reinforce examples of good practice we also produce digitally animated certificates, presented to staff in celebration of being a values led organisation. Staff can be nominated for a range of awards such 'Allyship' award, 'Kindness' and more. We can also deliver bespoke creative spoken word animated poems to reinforce the key messages for your: key notes, board meetings, seminars or training events. Our highly recognised work in this area for NHS Dudley Clinical Commissioning Group reached the Cabinet Office.

Memorhyme Live is our events planning and support department with over 15 years' experience in live stage show delivery. Live event support as hosts or live creative poetry capture where we capture parts of your key speakers and event, to feedback in poetic form, to close the event. From Glastonbury stages to international schools across the globe Memorhyme Live has worked alongside the Premier League, BBC Radio 4, Channel 4, National Literacy Trust, British Council, Royal College of Nursing, West Midlands Ambulance Service and many more channel partners.
